On January 3rd 2016 at 10:57 a.m. I became a father for the first time—at the age of 48 years old. Jean Louise Bernice Taylor was born, changing my life forever. I had always wanted to be a dad, so my late start at fatherhood wasn’t necessarily reluctance, but rather waiting until I was ready. Guess what? You’re never ready.
This blog was initially started in November of 2015 as I prepared to be a dad. Well, once Jean Louise was born things got a bit chaotic and a little less on track. So by June, I wasn’t posting much on Dan a.k.a. Dad. But now that the dust has settled somewhat, by “dad blog” has returned as an outlet to share my experiences as a middle-aged first time father. I’m a nerd by nature that likes to write. So what better way to help scratch that itch than writing about my experiences being Jean Louise’s dad?
You see… It turns out that I dig being a dad even more than I expected. It was definitely worth waiting for. I’ve discovered that having a kid is like having a new best friend. And, having a daughter…? As cliché as it sounds, I am—and forever will be—wrapped around this little girl’s finger. Wish me luck.
